By the end of the Civil War roughly 180,000 African American men, many of them former slaves, were soldiers in the United States Army. These USCT (United States Colored Troops) soldiers made up approximately 10% of the entire United States armed force.
This week on "TENN in 20," join hosts and historical enthusiasts Brad and Sarah as they interview Kurt Vetters, author of the books Confederate Winter and Freedom Spring, on the topic of these men who truly fought for their freedom.
